"Back to Our Roots"

Dear WakeUP member,

November has been a busy month across Wake County - from municipal elections, community surveys, BRT groundbreakings, and new park openings across the area - all of the active, fall energy reminding us why we love to live in this vibrant area.

WakeUP staff has spent much of the month mobilizing voters, celebrating BRT and RUSBUS groundbreakings, convening community partners around transportation and land use, researching issues of displacement and gentrification, answering resident questions about water quality, and helping put context around affordable housing: what it is, who needs it, and why it is such a priority for our area

Grass roots are strongest working together… So are grassroots organizations. We need you.

Back to Our Roots - 2023 Giving Giving Campaign

Starting today, we are launching our “Back to Our Roots” year end giving campaign. This campaign is a celebration of our decades-long efforts to engage our community in sustainable planning efforts around transportation, education, and water quality. It is also the planting of a seed: into the new year with new leadership. With growth continuing in our area for the foreseeable future, we need to remain an active voice in supporting affordable housing, equitable transit options, and environmentally-conscious land use development.

With over 40% of charitable donations occurring in December alone, WakeUP will join the chorus of nonprofits throughout the month asking for your investment into the work being done to make a difference in our community. If every WakeUP member gave just $25 (just $2 per month!), we would have over $80,000 to invest into advocating for sustainable solutions to our growth. This would double our capacity to engage diverse communities, build more community partnerships across communities, and ensure that issues from every municipality are engaged through the lens of environmental and social equity.

Whether you have been in Wake County all your life, or you are a new transplant to the area, making our community an equitable place that is able to thrive socially, economically, and environmentally requires investment from everyone.

In this season of gratitude and celebration, WakeUP Wake County is grateful for all our members, community leaders, and partners who work to make sure we live in a place that invests in the future. We are all interconnected and decisions happening today will impact us tomorrow.  “Our roots” are your roots and together we will continue to grow into a strong and thriving community for all.

Give a gift.
Invite a neighbor.
Share your voice.
